Awards show up on social profile pages (unless configured not to by the site sysadmins).

Awards, also known by their internal name of system gifts, are similar to user-to-user gifts, but the main difference is that awards are awarded automatically by the wiki software after a user reaches a certain threshold configured by the site administrators, such as having 15 friends or having made 50 edits, etc.

Awards show up as a separate section (unless configured to not show) on users' structured social user profile pages. Like with other similar sections, such as friends and foes or user-to-user gifts, up to four newest awards will be shown on the user's profile page and should they have more awards than that, then a "view all" link is displayed.

Managing awards

Awards are managed via the Special:SystemGiftManager special page, which allows to add and remove awards as well as modify existing awards. Access to this special page is restricted to users with the awardsmanage right.

The threshold and type define what the user has to do to get an award.

Each award should have an associated image, which can be uploaded via the link on the award editing page. Note that much like user avatar or user gift images, award images are also not treated as regular MediaWiki files, and thus they won't have an associated File: page and it will not be possible to store metadata about them etc. Furthermore it is not possible to use an existing on-wiki image as an award image.

Most popular awards

The Special:TopAwards special page displays some of the most popular awards. Note that there are hardcoded, non-changeable thresholds per award category, which might sometimes be the reason why the page isn't displaying any awards even if you expect there to be some. These hardcoded thresholds and their categories are:

In practise this means that if your wiki is configured to award an award for making, say, 200 edits, this award type would not be ever visible on Special:TopAwards. But if your wiki is configured to award an award for referring a single new user to the wiki, that award type would be displayed on Special:TopAwards since the threshold for that category is 0.
